When I watch the yellow butterfly’s wings move back and forth rapidly,
I think about the dependability of life,
like a heart steadily beating.
When I see the yellow butterfly land lightly and be still
I think of the brevity of life,
how we live only for a moment.
When I watch the yellow butterfly dip and dive through the air—
Cushioned by gravity—
I think life is like a thrill ride:
Making surprise turns but
held secure by the peaceful waters
in the butterfly’s background.
